How to increase Organic matter in your Topsoil REGEN style

Regenerative agriculture is gaining popularity as people become more concerned about the health of the planet and the quality of the food they eat. One of the key principles of regenerative agriculture is building soil health, which can be achieved by increasing the organic matter content of the soil. Here are some steps you can take to regenerate your topsoil and increase its organic matter content:

1. Minimize or eliminate tillage: Tillage can destroy soil structure and organic matter, so reducing or eliminating it can help preserve soil health and organic matter.

2. Use cover crops: Cover crops are plants that are grown to protect the soil from erosion and nutrient loss. They also add organic matter to the soil when they are incorporated into the soil.

3. Rotate crops: Crop rotation helps prevent soil-borne diseases and pests while also improving soil health. Different crops have different nutrient requirements, so rotating crops can help ensure that the soil is not depleted of any particular nutrient.

4. Apply compost: Compost is an excellent source of organic matter and nutrients. Applying compost to your soil can help increase its organic matter content while also providing your plants with the nutrients they need. We Recommend a Bio-Complete compost such as  Brick-end farms or Black earth

5. Reduce or eliminate chemical fertilizers: Chemical fertilizers are harmful to soil health and can reduce the organic matter content of the soil over time. Using natural fertilizers like compost can help maintain or increase the organic matter content of the soil.

By following these steps, you can regenerate your topsoil and increase its organic matter content, leading to healthier plants and a more sustainable food system.
